Canadian golfer Ben Silverman yesterday won the PGA Web.com Tour’s Price Cutter Charity Championship presented by Dr Pepper.
Roughly 15,000 people attended the four-day tournament at Highland Springs Country Club to watch Silverman take home $121,500, said Kari Crawford, PCCC director of marketing.
Crawford said the final fundraising tally for the PCCC isn’t yet available, as events including a food festival, run and golf tournament are still on the calendar. She was unsure if the tournament met its $2.4 million operational budget.
Last year, $900,145 went to 45 children’s charities.
“Our events don’t end until after September. We’ll know in November,” she said of the fundraising total that will benefit Ozarks charities.
Silverman finished at 25-under-par 263, one stroke ahead of Oklahoma golfer Talor Gooch.
“I couldn’t miss with the putter,” Silverman said in the release. “It felt so good. I was seeing the breaks and I think I was at 8-under for the round without realizing it. Things were just clicking.”
Springfield’s Terry Frost served as caddy for Silverman. He also was caddy for last year’s winner, Canadian Mackenzie Hughes, according to the release.
The win at the four-day tournament was Silverman’s best finish following a tie for fifth at the Utah Championship presented by Zions Bank. It moved him up to No. 16 from No. 63 on the PGA Tour money list with $187,537, according to PGATour.com.
A safe room and classroom addition at Willard Central Elementary School will be used by the music, arts and athletic programs for a district that had 4,536 students last year, according to Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education figures, but school officials say enrollment is projected to grow.
