David Kueber opened the first Planet Fitness in the Springfield area March 18 at 2851 W. Republic Road, a former Price Cutter store. Fitness memberships range between $10 and $20. Rick Kueber said the center employs six full-time and 15 part-time staff, managed by
Travis Satterthwaite. With franchise rights for two additional fitness centers in Springfield, the brothers plan to open the second by the end of the year. The shop sells handmade quilts and gifts, such as felt doughnut pincushions and fabric letter bunting, and Hornickel offers sewing classes and services for clothing to home decor. The sole employee, Hornickel leases space from Talula’s for an undisclosed amount. Quilts can cost as much as $250, and fabric prices range from $8 to $12 per yard. Etsy.com/shop/TheLadyInThreadCompton Ridge CampgroundTexarkana, Texas-based Ocean Canyon Properties Inc. closed March 7 on the purchase of Compton Ridge Campground in Branson for an undisclosed amount in a foreclosure transaction with First Community Bank of the Ozarks.
Peter Graffman, executive vice president and co-founder of Ocean Canyon, said the bank took over the 76-acre campground near Silver Dollar City last year and the resort closed Dec. 1. Ocean Canyon plans to reopen the park April 1 with a 30-room motel, 25-room lodge, 260 RV sites, two outdoor pools, an indoor pool, a country store and Wi-Fi across the campground. Graffman said Ocean Canyon would keep the Compton Ridge name and operations largely the same, with its music, entertainment and food-based events for campers. The park is Ocean Canyon’s eighth property across seven states and its first public campground. Its others, including a resort in southeast Arkansas, are available only to its clients, who pay for annual memberships. Phone: (417) 338-2911. Web:
