Downtown clothing retailer Modern Society plans to move this month to the Brentwood Center, a development recently purchased by Jared Enterprises.

Modern Society co-owner Andrea Pena said she and her husband, Bryan, expect to open the doors at the new spot Jan. 31, three days after closing at 331 S. Campbell Ave. The roughly 2,500-square-foot space at 2652 S. Glenstone Ave. gives additional sales space and positions the company closer to its customers, Pena said, estimating 80 percent of its clientele live on the south side.

“We’ve outgrown our space right here,” she said, noting a healthy relationship with current landlord Scott Tillman, who recently placed a sign in the window of the downtown shop offering it for lease. “We’ve really enjoyed working with him.”

Pena said the Modern Society owners weren’t in the market for a new location but were approached by Jared Enterprises, which she said purchased the Brentwood Center retail strip Jan. 1 from Gillenwaters Developers.

“We went over and looked at it, and it’s a really good fit for us,” Pena said of the space that previously housed women’s clothing store Ashby’s.

The Penas signed a five-year lease with Jared Enterprises for undisclosed terms. According to JaredEnterprises.com, the triple-net lease rate in the roughly 112,000-square-foot center is $3 per square foot.

Modern Society has operated out of its downtown storefront since it opened in September 2011, Pena said. The store sells men’s and women’s clothing with a specialization in private-label casual apparel, according to its website.[[In-content Ad]]
