Dedicated to improving the Springfield community through construction, Crossland Construction is closing in on the completion of Springfield Fire Station 7 on East Sunshine.
Crossland employees and Springfield locals Juan Trujillo and Chris Collins took the lead on this project. They will complete the fire station three months ahead of schedule which is nearly unheard of in the current construction climate.
Crossland Construction’s Springfield team takes their commitment to the city seriously because they are part of this community. Crossland started as a local company where small town pride was a critical part of its growth, and that’s why it is still important to them today to hire local team members. They are firm believers that when you work and live in the same community, you are better able to serve their unique needs.
“Everyone here is a Springfieldian, either born and raised here or has lived here for a long time like me,” said Vice President Jeff Groven. The team consists of several Missouri State University graduates and every superintendent and project manager at Crossland’s Springfield division is local. Groven, who was named VP of the local division in May 2023, has been working in construction in the Springfield region his entire career, which spans more than two decades.
In the spirit of all things local, Abbey Eddington heads Crossland Cares, which is the charitable arm of Crossland Construction. Each division of Crossland chooses where they want their charitable efforts to focus, whether that be helping their own coworkers or local nonprofits. “It’s a way for us to give back to our employees and the community we live in and to show that Crossland Cares,” said Eddington. The local Crossland team has served meals at Victory Mission and every Christmas they participate in the Salvation Army Angels program, which provides Christmas gifts to families in need.
Crossland Cares is also dedicated to furthering STEM education in schools. They partnered with PITSCO Education to create an educational bundle to give students a learning opportunity they may not otherwise receive. The Springfield division will be donating one of these bundles to a local area school. Crossland hopes by engaging in hands-on learning, students will better understand how STEM and problem-solving play a large role in the construction industry.
Community is key at Crossland and Groven sums up what that means to the team. “It means a lot to us to build local,” said Groven. “For me personally, being able to see projects I’ve built and share them with my kids and family, going past those different buildings and seeing that we had a lasting impact on the community is special. The big driver is being proud of what we do and the changes we’re able to make.”
