Jordan Valley hires longtime Mercy executive

Posted online
Jordan Valley Community Health Center this month brought on longtime Mercy executive Jay Guffey.

Effective Sept. 6, Guffey started as Jordan Valley’s vice president of administration, in charge of the day-to-day operations of the downtown medical, dental and vision center. He succeeds Lisa Odom, who started in August as chief financial officer of Cox HealthPlans, according to her LinkedIn profile.

“I’ve served in the community in a lot of different capacities,” Guffey said this morning. “Jordan Valley provides care to patients who are traditionally underserved. This is a unique opportunity to serve those patients in the community.”

Guffey left as Mercy Hospital Springfield’s chief operating officer in June after 38 years working for the health system. He declined to comment on the specific circumstances behind his exit.

“I left at the end of June to pursue other opportunities,” he said.

Mercy spokesman Brad Haller said via email Brent Hubbard assumed Guffey’s position in August. He’s also partnering with Chief Nursing Officer Lisa Person to lead hospital-related functions for Mercy Springfield Communities. Prior to his new role, Hubbard worked the past three years as COO of Mercy Hospital Forth Smith in Arkansas.

Haller also declined to comment on the terms of Guffey’s departure from the health system.

“We congratulate him on his new role at Jordan Valley Community Health Center, and we’re delighted that he will continue serving the Springfield community,” Haller said.
