Greene County ranks 71st in nation for wage growth

Though Greene County wages were the lowest statewide in the fourth quarter, they rose quicker than many other areas across the nation.

Greene County’s average weekly wage in the last quarter of 2017 was $841, a 4.2 percent increase from a year earlier. On a percentage increase basis, Greene ranked 71st among the 346 largest U.S. counties measured by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, according to a news release.

Below are Missouri counties, ranked by wages, year-over-year percentage increase and growth rank nationwide:
    •    St. Louis, $1,168, 3.6 percent; No. 117;
    •    St. Louis City, $1,145, 1.7 percent, No. 297;
    •    Jackson, $1,103, 3.4 percent, No. 134;
    •    Clay, $948, 1.4 percent, No. 304;
    •    St. Charles, $847, 1 percent, No. 317;
    •    Boone, $846, 0.5 percent, No. 331; and
    •    Greene, $841, 4.2 percent, No. 71.

In the United States, the average fourth-quarter weekly wage rose 3.9 percent to $1,109, according to the release.
