The 31st Judicial Circuit Court in Greene County is adding a seventh judge.
The funding for the role was included in the state budget, according to a news release issued by the Springfield Metropolitan Bar Association. Gov. Mike Parson signed the $51.8 billion budget on June 30.
SMBA Executive Director Crista Hogan said via email the budget provides over $230,000 in funding for the new judgeship and a court reporter.
Court officials in the release thanked Parson and Sen. Lincoln Hough, R-Springfield, who chairs the Senate Appropriations Committee, for their work in securing the seventh judgeship.
"The additional judicial resources will further our ability to provide the citizens of Greene County with access to justice," Presiding Judge Jerry Harmison said in the release.
The 31st Circuit Judicial Commission reviews applications and conducts interviews for judges and then submits recommendations to the governor for consideration.
A safe room and classroom addition at Willard Central Elementary School will be used by the music, arts and athletic programs for a district that had 4,536 students last year, according to Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education figures, but school officials say enrollment is projected to grow.
