Dock Brothers Construction Co. co-founder Bob Dock died Dec. 1 of cancer. He was 70.
Brothers Bob and Paul Dock in the early 1980s bought the business from their father, who started the company as Dock Construction in 1968, according to Springfield Business Journal archives.
Since the purchase, Dock Brothers Construction served as general contractor for the University Plaza Convention Center, multiple projects for UnderCover Inc. in Rogersville and a recently completed construction project for RNR Custom Wheels & Tire Express on South Campbell Avenue. Current projects include developer James Tillman’s 210 W. Republic Road retail center and renovations to Corwin Ford, Paul Dock said.
Paul said Bob’s ownership in Dock Brothers transferred to him. Bob, who was semi-retired for the past eight years, ran the retail side of Dock Brothers’ concrete contractor division, Increte of the Ozarks, until his death. Paul said he has not determined whether he’ll bring on someone new to run Increte or sell the division.
During the visitation last night at South Gate Baptist Church, Paul said he was reminded how active Bob was in Boy Scouts of America and his church.
“Bob had a lot of friends in the construction industry, but he also had a lot of friends in the scouting community and his church,” Paul said. “He left an imprint on a lot of people. For that, he’ll be missed.”
Bob’s funeral is scheduled at 2 p.m. today at South Gate Baptist, followed by internment services at White Chapel Memorial Gardens, according to his obituary.
