The restaurant venture launched last year by Martha’s Vineyard nightclub co-owners Tony Rank and Allen Brown shuttered over the weekend, according to the landlord.
Calgaro’s Pizzeria, which opened in May 2016 at 210 S. Market Ave., Ste. 124, inside College Station, closed its doors Sept. 30, said Paul Tillman, property manager for Tillman Redevelopment LLC.
Tillman declined to say why the 4,200-square-foot restaurant at the corner of Market and College St. closed or whether the owners broke their lease. He referred further questions to Rank and Brown, who did not return calls by deadline.
Springfield Business Journal observed Calgaro’s kitchen equipment and dining room furniture pushed against the windows of the restaurant space waiting to be removed.
“We’re working with them to get all of their equipment out,” Tillman said.
Tillman Redevelopment soon will talk with brokers in the area to re-lease the space, he said.
“Obviously, we’ll be looking for a restaurant,” Tillman said. “Everything’s in there and ready to go for a restaurant user.”
The business partners originally signed a 10-year lease for the space, where Calgaro’s sold pizza, pasta, sandwiches and burgers, and had a full bar. The restaurant seated 150 and employed 25 when it opened, according to Springfield Business Journal archives.
Utah-based gourmet cookie chain Crumbl Cookies opened its first Springfield shop; interior design business Branson Upstaging LLC relocated; and Lauren Ashley Dance Center LLC added a second location.
