City names assistant Public Works director

Posted online

The Public Works Department at the city of Springfield has named a new assistant director.

Eric Claussen is scheduled to become assistant director over operations on Oct. 2, according to a news release. He'll succeed the retiring Kirk Juranas, who served in the role the past five years.

“Eric is a strong leader and brings a collaborative, goal-driven mindset that will benefit both citizens and city employees,” Public Works Director Dan Smith said in the release. “He has extensive experience with overseeing multimillion-dollar annual budgets and public infrastructure projects for streets, sidewalks and multiuse paths, stormwater infrastructure, public landscaping and mowing, and snow removal."

In the assistant director role, Claussen will oversee street operations and public grounds, transportation management and general services.

It's a return to the city for Claussen, who previously worked 14 years in roles that included superintendent of street operations and public grounds. He has held government roles in South Carolina since 2021, according to his LinkedIn profile.

"We are excited to have him rejoin us here in Springfield," Smith said in the release.
