CD Warehouse closing after 25 years

Posted online

CD Warehouse is scheduled to close following a liquidation sale.

Officials with the 1938 S. Glenstone Ave. store notified its customers on Facebook the liquidation sale starting today should take three to five months to complete. The music store has more than 70,000 pieces of inventory to sell, according to a Facebook post.

“It’s with the heaviest of hearts I must tell you after 25 years we will begin our going-out-of-business sale,” the post reads. “As you can imagine, our entire staff is devastated, but we are grateful you kept us going this long.”

Reached this morning, store manager Michael Vincent confirmed the closure but was busy with the sale and unable to speak further. Vincent has managed the store since it opened, according to Springfield Business Journal archives.

Mark Kane, the original founder of CD Warehouse in Dallas, sold the company to Oklahoma City-based CD Warehouse Inc. in 1997 after building it to 175 stores. CD Warehouse Inc. filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in 2002, according to NewsOK.com. It’s unclear how many CD Warehouse stores continue to operate.
