Butler, Rosenbury & Partners is the architect, structural engineer and landscape architect for the main facility at The Watershed Center at Valley Water Mill for Watershed Committee of the Ozarks. BNIM did the schematic design for the project. Greene County Resource Management provided the civil engineering, and Malone Finkle Eckhardt & Collins Inc. is the mechanical and electrical engineer. The main facility, which has an estimated cost of $2.5 million, comprises approximately 10,000 square feet, including public meeting rooms, staff offices and a teacher resource lab and library. The building is designed with sustainable certification standards to achieve silver or gold Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design certification. Components include rainwater harvesting, innovative stormwater management, sustainable building materials, efficient water fixtures, energy-efficient heating and cooling systems, and an in-house wastewater treatment facility, or eco-machine, designed by Jonathan Todd. The surrounding site, adjacent to Valley Water Mill Lake, will operate as part of the Springfield-Greene County Parks system and features a series of trails and learning stations that highlight specific water resources, such as wetlands and streams. Completion is scheduled for 2009.
