Dr. Denise Roche-Caldwell’s work varies drastically from one day to the next.
She and her husband, Dr. Edward Caldwell, own and operate Deerfield Veterinary Hospital, which they opened nearly 15 years ago just out of school and with one year of clinical experience under their belts.
“My job description changes daily, if not hourly,” Roche-Caldwell said.
“In the period of one day, I can be a veterinary pediatrician, a dentist, an internist, a radiologist, an allergist, a surgeon and a grief counselor. The next day I can be the head of (human resources), a senior staff adviser, office administrator and schedule coordinator, in addition to being a veterinarian,” she added.
Roche-Caldwell said she enjoys the rapid changes, however, and she considers it a privilege to be part of pet owners’ lives.
“My proudest professional accomplishment is that I am able to impact both a pet’s life and a client’s life daily,” she said. “I am awarded the privilege to celebrate and to nurture the unique human-animal bond.”
Through her business, Roche-Caldwell assists the Southwest Missouri Humane Society, Great Dane Rescue of the Ozarks, Southwest Missouri Canine Rescue and the Spay and Neuter Assistance Program.
Deerfield Veterinary Hospital also was the sole underwriter of the Dog Swim held at Fassnight Park last year and supports the College of Veterinary Medicine Pet Memorial Program.
Roche-Caldwell and her husband have two daughters, ages 5 and 4.
“I hope my profession demonstrates to my young daughters that they too can choose a professional career path in life if they wish,” Roche-Caldwell said. “I will strive to be the best partner, parent and veterinarian that I can be, knowing that my roles will continue to change and evolve.”
