Greene County sells first pieces of Jamestown

Posted online
The Greene County Commission voted this week to release two lots at the Jamestown development, marking the first sales since the county took ownership of the 200-acre property last year.

Commissioner Roseann Bentley said Turner Residential Properties LLC agreed to purchase two lots at the failed Rogersville development for a total of $35,000.

County Administrator Chris Coulter said closure on the sales currently is being scheduled. The lots, both roughly a quarter-acre in size, would allow Turner to build single-family residences on the land, he said.

Bentley said requests for information about the property have started to increase.

“We are starting to get calls of interest from other people. We’re really pleased that things are starting to move forward,” she said. “I think that (the Missouri Department of Transportation) putting the new interchange in on 60 has been helpful in getting more attention to that area in Rogersville. We were really glad to see that project going.”

Greene County acquired Jamestown in October for $13.6 million in a sheriff’s tax sale. The funding matched the full neighborhood improvement district assessment owed by investors.

Jamestown developer Stephen Cope had worked in the early 2000s to build a mixed-use community on the property, but plans never came to fruition, according to Springfield Business Journal archives.[[In-content Ad]]
