Last city sewer rate hike of 2011 plan hits today

Springfield residents shouldn’t be surprised to see an increase on their next utility bill. It’s happened the last five years.

Today, a 3 percent planned hike in sanitary sewer services goes into effect. Springfield contracts with City Utilities for the service, so customers will notice the change on their August CU bills, according to a news release.

The change is the last in a series of increases approved by City Council in spring 2011 under the city’s $50 million Early Action Plan.

Council is expected to consider a new rate structure later this summer.

With the change today, an average residential customer who uses 6 cubic feet - or 4,488 gallons - of water per month will see their bill rise to $28.94 from $28.11.
