SPS board extends Jungmann’s contract for 3rd time

For the third time since he was hired in 2014, John Jungmann has been granted a contract extension by the Springfield Public Schools Board of Education.

The board voted unanimously last week to extend the superintendent’s contract through the 2019-20 academic year, according to a news release.

"We established specific goals as a basis for his evaluation and this formal review is the culmination of regular progress checks and updates on those goals," board President Denise Fredrick said in the release. "Following a complete evaluation, with extensive input from all board members, we are in total agreement that Jungmann exceeds our expectations in his progress."

The latest extension follows board approval a year ago for Jungmann to keep leading the district through the 2018-19 academic year and two years ago for him to keep the position in the 2017-18 academic year.

Jungmann's base pay for the current academic year is $240,466. SPS spokeswoman Teresa Bledsoe said via email his base pay in the upcoming academic years will be based on whether teachers receive raises. According to the contract extension included in the SPS board’s latest meeting agenda, Jungmann also receives complete health insurance benefits, retirement contributions, life insurance coverage and a potential retention incentive.
