MSU hires Springfield Fire chief for new role

Posted online
Missouri State University announced this morning the hiring of Springfield Fire Department Chief David Hall for a newly created position.

Effective Feb. 1, Hall will become MSU’s first emergency preparedness manager. He’ll be in charge of managing the planning, budgeting, training and programing of the university’s emergency preparedness and response functions, according to a news release.

“In a pool of outstanding candidates, David’s history of successfully leading the Springfield Fire Department and extensive knowledge of emergency services made him a logical choice for the new position,” said Matt Morris, MSU vice president for administrative services, in the release.

An employee with the Springfield Fire Department the past 27 years, Hall was named chief in 2009.

Hall is no stranger to MSU. He’s taught management courses at the university the past 20 years, as well as classes at the University of Missouri Fire and Rescue Training Institute and the National Fire Academy. He also earned his bachelor’s in administrative management and master’s in business administration from MSU, according to the release.

“I have worked closely with Missouri State over the years and have seen firsthand their commitment to campus safety,” Hall said in the release. “The opportunity to serve as the emergency preparedness manager seemed like a natural progression for me both personally and professionally.”

MSU spokeswoman Andrea Mostyn said Hall’s annual salary is $61,584.

At the city, Springfield Fire Department Assistant Chief David Pennington will take over Hall’s duties in an interim role starting Feb. 1. The city plans to begin a nationwide search for his successor soon, said city spokeswoman Cora Scott.
