Kum & Go opens first Ozark store

Posted online
Kum & Go, which is investing up to $30.5 million in the Springfield-area market, today opened its first convenience store and gas station in Ozark.

The 6,200-square-foot store at 901 W. Jackson St. utilizes the company’s prototype concept dubbed Marketplace, which includes indoor and outdoor seating and an expanded food preparation area, according to a news release.

Located at the intersection of Jackson Street and Highway NN, the store replaces a former shopping center that was demolished.

West Des Moines, Iowa-based Kum & Go currently operates 46 stores in the Springfield area and over 70 in Missouri. New Marketplace stores are in the works this year in Missouri and five other states.

Earlier this month, Springfield City Council held a first reading of a rezoning bill for 2 acres at the southwest corner of National Avenue and Walnut Lawn Street for the redevelopment of a Kum & Go.

Kum & Go is seeking to change the zoning to general retail from a planned development in order to expand the gas station. Officials with Kum & Go and Olsson Associates, which submitted the plans to the Springfield Planning and Zoning Commission, could not be reached for comment by deadline.

In December, Kum & Go opened its second Marketplace concept store in Republic. The company is investing some $30.5 million in Marketplace store upgrades in the Springfield market. The new concept stores typically exceed $4 million in development costs, according to Springfield Business Journal archives.
