Glenstone Marketplace developer Brad Thessing this morning confirmed Columbus, Ohio, retail chain Designer Shoe Warehouse signed on to open its first Springfield store.
Thessing said the company known as DSW plans to open next spring at his $10 million, 100,000-square-foot center at 3333 S. Glenstone Ave. Citing a city building permit, the
Springfield News-Leader first reported DSW’s plans but was unable to confirm them with Thessing or the retailer.
“We’ve been working with them for a few years to bring them to the market,” said Thessing, who previously indicated an undisclosed national shoe store signed on for the development. “We were able to finally decide on a location.”
At Glenstone Marketplace, DSW will be located adjacent to the planned 28,000-square-foot Lucky’s Market, he said. The development also is slated to be home to Springfield’s first HomeGoods store.
Thessing said Glenstone Marketplace is on track for an October or November opening at the the 8-acre site behind Target that previously housed a Howard Johnson hotel. Thessing and business partner Kevin Guffey of central Missouri-based American Realty & Development demolished the hotel in August 2015. The development’s first tenant, The Fresh Market, canceled its lease after a buyout by Apollo Global Management LLC (NYSE: APO).
