Las Vegas-based Allegiant Travel Co. (Nasdaq: ALGT) today announced a new route to begin this spring at Springfield-Branson National Airport.
The operator of Allegiant Air on May 25 plans to start seasonal nonstop service to the Destin-Fort Walton Beach Airport in Florida. Currently, Allegiant offers nonstop flights from Springfield to Los Angeles, Las Vegas and Phoenix, as well as Florida airports in Orlando, Punta Gorda and Clearwater, according to a news release.
“Folks in southwest Missouri have made the 12-hour drive to Fort Walton Beach for years. Now, it’s just a couple of hours away,” Springfield-Branson National Airport Director Brian Weiler said in the release.
Flights to the Destin-Fort Walton Beach Airport will last from May 25 to Aug. 15.
Springfield-Branson National Airport also has flights operated by American Airlines Group Inc. (Nasdaq: AAL), Delta Air Lines (NYSE: DAL) and United Airlines. With the latest Allegiant addition, the Springfield airport
offers 13 direct flights.
Allegiant’s Springfield announcement is among 11, including Kansas City, to Destin-Fort Walton Beach Airport. Company officials also pointed to new seasonal and year-round flights in six other cities outside Missouri to various airports, including first-time service from Louisville, Kentucky, according to a separate news release.
"Our presence in Florida continues to grow as we announce our largest expansion into a Florida destination in the company's history," said Jude Bricker, Allegiant chief operating officer, in the release. "A new base in Destin/Fort Walton Beach will allow us to better serve travelers.”
ALGT shares were trading at $174.20 as of 9:38 a.m., compared with a 52-week range of $121.70 to $183.91.
