New power added to grids in 2015 was mostly renewable

A new report from Bloomberg New Energy Finance and the Business Council for Sustainable Energy shows renewable energy accounted for the majority of new power added to the U.S. power grid for the second year in a row.

Clean energy investment was $56 billion in 2015 – up 7.5 percent from $51.8 in 2014. According to Fortune, renewable investments 10 years ago totaled $15 billion.

As clean energy benefited from government incentives and declining costs, the Energy Information Administration reported the number of coal plants and total coal production continued a downward trend started in 2008.
