Vasken’s International Deli and Food Market LLC
Vasken and Staci Haroutounian opened their second location of Vasken’s International Deli and Food Market LLC on March 25 at 900 E. Battlefield Road, Ste. 128. Centered on Mediterranean and Middle Eastern cuisine, the 3,200-square-foot deli offers the same family recipes, including gyros and tabouli salad, as their store at Branson Mill Marketplace, 3200 Gretna Road. With an initial investment of $50,000, the Haroutounians lease the Battlefield Market Place space from Magers Enterprises for an undisclosed amount. Prior to opening the Branson deli in 1997, the Haroutounians ran restaurants and international food stores in Little Rock, Ark. Whole Hog Cafe
Four years after opening their first Springfield restaurant, the operators of Whole Hog Cafe have added a second location. Co-owners Dave Warren, Daniel Bryant, Charlie Koelling and Michael Cole on March 31 opened in 5,200 square feet at 2731 N. Glenstone Ave. to complement their south-side Whole Hog Cafe, 224 W. Sunshine St. The business partners own a licensing agreement with the Little Rock, Ark.-based barbecue chain and invested about $180,000 in the second cafe, a former Shoney’s, Warren said. He and Bryant got into the Whole Hog business in September 2009 with original partners Paul Sundy and Mike Hesslin. They bought out Sundy and Hesslin for an undisclosed amount and later added Koelling and Cole to the ownership group. Original to the two Springfield restaurants are such menu items as cheesy corn, smoked green beans and home fries, to go along with traditional ribs, pulled pork and beef brisket. With 20 employees, Warren runs the north-side restaurant. Hours: 11 a.m.–9 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 11 a.m.–8 p.m. Phone: (417) 720-4759. Web: WholeHogSGF.com
