City Clerk receives professional honor

Nixa City Clerk Coralee Patrick, CMC/AAE, has become the 152nd municipal clerk to be accepted into the third sustaining membership of the International Institute for Municipal Clerks Academy for Advanced Education.

Patrick is the the fifth municipal clerk in Missouri to be accepted into this level of advanced education. She has been employed with the city of Nixa since 1977 and serves as city clerk and finance director.

The academy began in 1981 to further professional education and enhance the performance of municipal clerks. Points are earned for the honor through attendance at academy programs, professional seminars and workshops, teaching or writing, and being recognized for accomplishments.

Patrick is among the approximately 14 percent of member clerks who have qualified for the status.

Mexican Villa expands to Ozark

A Mexican Villa restaurant is being built on South Jackson Street, at the northeast corner of Highway 14 and Highway 65 in Ozark. Polk Construction of Springfield is building the Mexican-style 2,400-square-foot restaurant that will seat 70 people.

Tom Ferguson of Mexican Villa said that the restaurant should be open the first week of September and that 15 people will be hired. There will be a limited menu featuring the basic items that Mexican Villa is known for at its six Springfield restaurants.

"It will be self serve. There will be no waitresses, and we'll use paper and plastic. It will not be a full-service restaurant. We won't serve American food, only Mexican. The prices will be cheaper than our full-service restaurants, and there will be a drive-through window," he said. Mexican Villa Ozark will be open 11 a.m.-l0 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 11 a.m.-l1 p.m. Friday and Saturday. "We're pretty excited about it," Ferguson said. He said the location was chosen because of its high traffic and proximity to Price Cutter Park, antique stores and the Springfield-Branson corridor. "We were going to go to Branson three years ago, but the land prices were sky high and there was not much of a labor force. Ozark is a nice little town, and I have more of a connection with Ozark," Ferguson said.

Golf course under development

Developer Dale Boatright is building a new 18-hole golf course called Island Green on 160 acres near Republic at 169 Country Club Dr. Originally a nine-hole course, Boatright tore out the old course and is starting fresh with a course designed by Jerry Slack and Associates of Tulsa. The semi-private course will feature three lakes, with one of the greens on an island. A clubhouse, comprising 11,500 square feet under roof, will include a covered patio of 3,000 square feet. The clubhouse was designed by Ben Goforth of Springfield and is being built by LaRue Construction of Republic. The clubhouse's banquet room will seat up to 150 people, according to Boatright. It is expected to open January 2000 and is already booking events. A pool and golf cart barn are also being built.

The project is owned by J.C. and Dale Boatright, and the estimated total cost is $6 million, according to Boatright. He said there are already 240 members in the golf club. In addition, there are 62 lots available for homes.

The homes must be more than 2,000 square feet and have three-car garages, plus some restrictions on exterior finishes and roof slope.

"The lots are not ready to sell yet. The streets should be done in 45 to 60 days," he said. Homeowners will receive a coupon good for a year to join the golf club at a 50 percent discount. For information, call 732-1861.
