White House withdraws CDC director nomination

The White House withdrew its nomination of Dr. Dave Weldon to serve as director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

The withdrawal came shortly before a confirmation hearing was scheduled on Thursday.

The former Florida lawmaker and physician reportedly received a White House phone call telling him he did not have enough votes to be confirmed.
