While Springfield was on the bottom half of personal finance website WalletHub.com’s annual list of the fasting-growing U.S. cities, its ranking was up 13 spots from last year.
Springfield ranked No. 306 on the list of 515 cities, measured in the categories of jobs, the economy and sociodemographics, according to the report. The Queen City placed at No. 319 on last year's list.
Each category had a total of 50 possible points, with metrics including working-age population, job growth, median household income growth, unemployment rate changes, and the number of businesses and startups. On the scale of 100, Springfield scored 40.57.
Springfield was the fourth- highest Missouri city on the list, after Lee's Summit, at No. 148, Kansas City, at No. 240, and O'Fallon, at No. 264. Other Missouri cities on the list are Columbia, No. 370, Independence, No. 429, St. Louis, No. 469, and St. Joseph, No. 500.
Utah-based gourmet cookie chain Crumbl Cookies opened its first Springfield shop; interior design business Branson Upstaging LLC relocated; and Lauren Ashley Dance Center LLC added a second location.
