Welk Resorts conducts layoffs in Branson

Posted online

California-based Welk Resorts is cutting staff in Branson amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Company officials said 94 employees are impacted, according to a March 31 Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act filing with the Missouri Division of Workforce Development.

"Given the rapidly changing response to COVID-19 and its economic effect, the company provided as much notice as reasonably practicable," the filing reads.

Jobs impacted include marketing and sales agents, attendants and servers at its 1984 State Highway 165 resort, sales division and its Branson.com marketing platform, according to the filing. The resort is temporarily closed.

Welk Resorts officials said the layoffs and furloughs are intended to be temporary and last less than six months.

Last month, Springfield attorney Richard Ashe won a roughly $6 million judgment on behalf of his client in a lawsuit filed against Welk Resorts over alleged breach of contract, according to past reporting.
