Evangel University professors Luke Gibbs, left, and Nathan Nelson receive teaching awards on Aug. 12, during the school’s faculty and staff back-to-school meeting. Gibbs, an associate professor of English, was chosen for the Orville & Jewel Mills Young Faculty Award for Excellence in Teaching, Scholarship and Service. Nelson, who retired this summer as an English professor and chair of the humanities department, earned Evangel’s top faculty honor: the E.M. and Estella Clark Award for Excellence in Teaching, Scholarship and Service.

‘IN ANY ENVIRONMENT’
During commencement ceremonies held Aug. 14-15, Drury University graduated 479 students from its spring and summer programs. Traditionally held in May, the ceremonies were postponed and structured with social distancing protocols – both for graduates on the floor and guests in the stands at the O’Reilly Family Event Center. Drury President Tim Cloyd and Alumni Council President John Pope addressed the graduates. “You are now tasked with going out into the world and putting your talents, skills and Drury education to work,” Pope said. “And while this world seems a lot different than it did a year ago, don’t forget that Drury has been preparing you all along to succeed and thrive in any environment.”
