Mahomes Sets Another Record
Kansas City Chiefs radio announcer Mitch Holthus interviews quarterback Patrick Mahomes before a sell-out crowd April 9 at the Boys and Girls Club of Springfield Inc.’s Steak & Steak Dinner. Mahomes was the featured speaker, drawing roughly 1,250 people to the University Plaza Convention Center. Officials say the preliminary amount raised was $400,000, a record for the 23rd annual event.

Peggy Davis Day
Former Greene County Judge Peggy Davis receives the 2019 Harold K. Bengsch Award on April 5, a day the commission named in honor of her. Davis, a retired drug court commissioner, was honored for helping reshape lives through her work in the mental health, treatment and veterans courts. She retired Dec. 1, 2018, after 18 years in the drug court. Previously, Davis served as a state public defender and assistant prosecutor for the city of Springfield and Greene County.

Akers In, Best Out
New Branson Mayor Edd Akers is sworn into office April 9, a week after narrowly defeating Karen Best at the polls. Aldermen Brian Clonts, Kevin McConnell, Larry Milton and Bob Simmons also were sworn in during the Board of Aldermen meeting. Akers is recently retired, after a career in insurance, serving as president of Akers & Arney, 1970-93, and as an associate with Ollis/Akers/Arney following a merger of the companies in 2015.
