US Attorney Garrison among SPS Hall of Fame picks

Posted online

Tim Garrison, U.S. attorney for the Western District of Missouri, is among Springfield Public Schools’ selections for its 2019 Hall of Fame class.

Garrison is scheduled to join Ohio State University emeritus professor David Andereck and former NASA engineer Larry Hartley for an Oct. 17 induction ceremony at the White River Conference Center, according to a news release. The Hall of Fame honors SPS graduates with noteworthy achievements. Past inductees include Johnny Morris, founder of Bass Pro Shops, Steve Edwards, CEO of CoxHealth, and Shawn Askinosie, founder of Askinosie Chocolate.

Garrison, a 1994 graduate of Hillcrest High School, was appointed to the U.S. attorney role — which carries out the president’s legal directives in the Western District that includes Springfield — by former Attorney General Jeff Sessions and approved by the U.S. Senate in April 2018. Last month, he was the featured guest for Springfield Business Journal’s 12 People You Need to Know live interview series.

A 1970 graduate of Parkview High School, Andereck is currently an emeritus professor of physics at Ohio State, where he previously worked 14 years as senior associate dean for its college of mathematical and physical sciences. His Hall of Fame nominator referred to him as the "Neil deGrasse Tyson of Springfield Public Schools” for his research, publications, presentations and accolades, according to the release.

Hartley was employed by NASA at the Johnson Space Center for nearly 30 years. He supported the Apollo and Space Shuttle missions, and previously he provided on-console mission support during the first Apollo moon landing 50 years ago. The 1963 graduate of Hillcrest is currently an adjunct professor of management at Lone Star College-Kingwood near Houston, Texas.
