A Swiss company recently become the owner of Springfield-based Alpaca Audiology.

Sonova Holding AG, a provider of hearing care solutions, on March 1 announced the closure of the acquisition, according to a news release. The $310 million deal first was disclosed in January.

"The addition of Alpaca Audiology to our audiological care business will significantly increase our presence in the U.S., the world’s largest audiological care market," said Arnd Kaldowski, CEO of Sonova, when announcing the deal at the start of 2022. "With the acquisition, we are doubling our network in the country, strongly expanding our consumer access.”

Alpaca, which operates around 220 audiology clinics nationwide, is expected to contribute roughly $120 million in annual revenue to Sonova. Alpaca, which operates at 1525 E. Republic Road, Ste. B-135, has more than 500 employees. The company sells hearing aids and treats hearing loss, according to its website.

Alpaca Audiology is a medical equipment buying company founded by Sound Advice Hearing Doctors LLC co-owner Dr. Brian Vesely, according to past Springfield Business Journal reporting. Alpaca's website lists Vesely as president, with George Swetlitz serving as CEO.
