The construction of a large outdoor athletic complex in Republic funded by a quarter-cent sales tax will go before voters in August. Olsson Inc. has been secured as the civil engineer and landscape architect for the Republic Sports Park and Athletic Complex planned on 136 acres south of James River Freeway between U.S. Highway 60 and Farm Road 156. If approved, the park would include 10 baseball/softball fields, eight soccer fields, up to 12 pickleball courts, fishing piers, a nature center, outdoor classrooms, playgrounds and walking trails. The proposal calls for construction in two phases with up to $15 million in Phase I being completed by summer 2024. Project officials say the estimated total cost is up to $40 million.
Should we be talking about politics in the workplace? Whatever one’s opinion on the practice, a February study by Gallup Inc. says 54% of on-site U.S. employees are doing it anyway.
