A 9-year-old business that delivered vehicles home for intoxicated customers has closed.
Substitute Drivers LLC announced its closure in a Jan. 1 Facebook post.
"This has been an extremely difficult decision to make, and one that will weigh heavy on my heart for a long time to come," the post reads.
Owner Joe Williams founded the business in 2011, providing a service where employees drove customers' vehicles home while another driver followed behind, according to Springfield Business Journal archives. He could not be reached for comment by deadline.
“Alcohol makes you feel like you can do things you can’t do. It makes you feel like you can drive," Williams told SBJ in 2016 of the reason for starting the business.
In the Facebook post, Substitute Drivers recommended a similar designated driver service, Safe Rides LLC.
