The Missouri Department of Natural Resources awarded a $30,720 Clean Water grant to the city of Clever.
Officials in Clever, located roughly 19 miles southwest of Springfield, plan to use the funds to evaluate the city's wastewater system, according to a news release.
The Clean Water Engineering Report Grant is earmarked for the city to identify wastewater system improvements needed to meet permit requirements and continue providing reliable service to residents. Officials say a facility plan is expected to be completed by February 2024.
The grant will help the city with wastewater engineering costs incurred with the preparation of the report, according to the release.
"Water and wastewater systems are essential infrastructure that support the health and economic vitality of a community," DNR officials said in the release. "Through the grant, Clever can assess its plant and identify improvements for efficiency and effectiveness, capacity and to satisfy public health and water quality regulations."
The Bureau of Labor Statistics reported in May the all-items inflation index surged 8.6% over the past year, the highest increase since 1981.
