A Thai restaurant on East Sunshine Street has closed its doors after a name change last year.
Thai Basil LLC announced the closure in a Nov. 17 Facebook post.
“We thank everyone that has came into our lives, but it’s time to move forward and start a new chapter,” the post reads.
The 1411 E. Sunshine St. building — near the Fremont Avenue intersection — has long held a Thai restaurant. Prayon and Ladda Nattongkum opened Thai Peppers at the spot in June 2002, according to Springfield Business Journal archives, and before that, it had been Thai House. The name switched to Thai Basil late last year.
“When our parents decided to retire, we took over and are making Thai Basil our own,” Thai Basil’s “About” section on its Facebook page reads.
Thai Basil’s November 2018 Missouri secretary of state filing lists Paneda Zelaya as the owner. Zelaya could not be reached for comment by deadline.
The Republic School District is on track to open its Intermediate School for fifth- and sixth-grade students for the 2025-26 academic year.
