Springfield Rep. Trent seeks state Senate seat

Posted online

Rep. Curtis Trent, R-Springfield, is seeking to transition from the state House of Representatives to the Senate.

Trent yesterday announced in a news release he's running for Missouri's 20th district seat in the Senate. The position, which represents Christian County and part of Greene County, currently is held by Sen. Eric Burlison, who earlier this month signaled plans to run for Missouri's 7th Congressional seat in the U.S. House of Representatives.

An attorney by trade who previously worked for Parmele Law Firm PC, Trent has been a member of the Missouri House for five years.

In the Senate, Trent plans to work on business issues such as digital privacy rights.

“Big technology companies have collected information on our most sensitive medical, financial and personal data, then sold it to whoever is willing to pay for it. Our children have no idea of the information that is being collected on them before they ever graduate high school – information that may deny them future jobs or home loans for the rest of their life," Trent said in the release. "Congress has failed to protect privacy rights for Missourians, so we must lead the fight to restore our rights.”

The first candidate to declare for the 20th Senate district, Trent has more than $150,000 in cash on hand, according to the release.
