Sculpture Walk Springfield, Hatch Foundation commission neon mural

Posted online

Spanish artist Spidertag is bringing interactive neon art to downtown Springfield.

Sculpture Walk Springfield and the Hatch Foundation have commissioned a piece that is slated to be installed on the north wall of History Museum on the Square’s Historic Fox Theatre, according to a news release.

"We are thrilled to partner with the Hatch Foundation to bring this extraordinary mural to life," said Bridget Bechtel, executive director of Sculpture Walk Springfield, in the release. "This project represents a significant investment in public art and a commitment to making Springfield a vibrant and inspiring place to live and visit."

The project cost was not disclosed in the release.

The installation of the 4,000-square-foot interactive neon mural is scheduled to start in September, according to the release.

Spidertag has installed dozens of interactive neon art pieces, including a project that opened last year in Bentonville, Arkansas. An April 2023 Facebook post from Visit Bentonville indicates viewers can engage with that mural by scanning a QR code.
