Springfield Business Journal secured three first-place honors from the Missouri Press Association's Better Newspaper Contest.
Judges for the MPA event awarded SBJ top honors in best local business coverage, best multimedia reporting for the No Ceiling podcast and best COVID-19 coverage. The award honorees were unveiled during a Sept. 23-25 convention held in Excelsior Springs.
The No Ceiling podcast features SBJ Executive Editor Christine Temple interviewing local women on their careers and challenges. The first season debuted in October 2020, with the second season launching this year. For the COVID-19 coverage award, SBJ published a series of articles to help businesses navigate the pandemic.
SBJ won a third-place award for its 90 Ideas in 90 Minutes podcast, in which local thought leaders share their best business ideas. Additionally, SBJ won an honorable mention for best overall design in its class of weekly newspapers.
Among the other local recipients, the Springfield News-Leader won 39 awards and Christian County Headliner News won two awards.
Utah-based gourmet cookie chain Crumbl Cookies opened its first Springfield shop; interior design business Branson Upstaging LLC relocated; and Lauren Ashley Dance Center LLC added a second location.
