The Springfield Area Chamber of Commerce's economic development arm released its 2020-21 report highlighting economic successes in the region.
The Springfield Business Development Corp.'s economic and workforce development impact recap indicates the organization won 13 projects that represent a capital investment total of $319.4 million. The report, first unveiled during the SBDC's annual meeting earlier this month, was included in the March 24 edition of its investor brief newsletter.
The report points to projects such as The Kraft Heinz Food Co.'s (Nasdaq: KHC) $48 million improvement project at its Springfield plant, Moline, Illinois-based Deere & Co.'s (NYSE: DE) expansion of its local remanufacturing division and Amazon.com Inc.'s (Nasdaq: AMZN) new operations in Republic and Springfield.
Together, the projects secured during the past two years created 1,388 new jobs and $38.6 million in new payroll, according to the report.
Utah-based gourmet cookie chain Crumbl Cookies opened its first Springfield shop; interior design business Branson Upstaging LLC relocated; and Lauren Ashley Dance Center LLC added a second location.
