The grand opening for a southwest Springfield venue that is bringing pickleball and cryotherapy services under one roof is scheduled for this weekend.
Oct. 5 is the planned debut for The Pickle LLC and The Chilly Dill LLC, two separate businesses with the same ownership. The 14,500-square-foot building constructed this year at 3350 E. Montclair St., near the U.S. Highway 65 and Battlefield Road intersection, houses The Pickle, which offers four indoor courts for pickleball, a lounge and a training area. On the building’s south side is The Chilly Dill, a cryotherapy recovery center.
The owners are two married couples, Christie and Tim Blasi and Katie and Steven Miller, according to past Springfield Business Journal reporting. The couples own the building and property via The Big Pickle LLC.
The sisters previously targeted a June launch for the businesses, declining to disclose estimated startup costs. Dock Brothers Construction Co. was general contractor for the project designed by BRP Architects.
“We’re so excited, but we’re a little nervous, too,” Katie Miller said of the upcoming grand opening, which is set for 9 a.m.-5 p.m. and will include giveaways and an on-site food truck.
Miller said the venue “pretty much exactly” matched their vision of pickleball meeting recovery and wellness. The Pickle fills roughly 9,000 square feet of the building, while The Chilly Dill, which has three full-body electric cryotherapy units, an infrared sauna and water massage among its services, occupies about 2,500 square feet. A staff of 10 is expected between the two businesses, she said.
Additionally, Day One Fitness LLC, a personal training business, will lease nearly 2,000 square feet in the facility, she said, adding it also plans to participate in the grand opening.
Memberships for The Pickle range $45-$80 per month, which provides members with 24/7 access to the facility and discounts on court rental fees and merchandise, as well as guest passes for family and friends, according to its website.
Pricing for individual sessions at The Chilly Dill range $20-$75. However, $150 day passes that provide access to most services also are available, as are monthly memberships, ranging $150-$310.
Christie Blasi said total membership at The Pickle will be limited to 200 people.
“We just don’t want a member to not be able to get a court,” she said.
A lounge area for The Pickle, dubbed The Pickle Pit, will sell a variety of drinks, including beer and wine by the drink, Blasi said.
“People will have an area that you can come and relax and watch people play pickleball and wait for your turn to play,” she said. “We recommend reserving a court online. We’ll have an app that will allow you to access our facility with your membership 24/7.”
While opening a little later than originally planned, Miller said she and her sister are ready to bring what they deem a premium service to Springfield and surrounding areas.
“I think it’s something that our community needs, and we’re really excited to open the doors and get her going,” Miller said.
