Paul Mueller Co. bumps up wages

Posted online

Springfield-based stainless steel manufacturer Paul Mueller Co. (OTC: MUEL) has implemented its second wage hike in as many years.

This month, roughly 380 hourly manufacturing workers in Springfield and Osceola, Iowa, were awarded wage increases, according to a news release. A company spokesperson could not be reached for comment by deadline on the wage hike amount.

“We constantly monitor market compensation and ensure our wages are competitive with the Midwest and local markets," said Jennifer Hohensee, Mueller Co.'s human resources manager, in a news release. "Competitive wages, attractive benefits and our people-focused culture give us an edge as new hires join our team."

All other employees not impacted by the increase receive a market wage analysis during their annual performance reviews.

Last summer, Mueller Co. instituted a $2.20 per hour wage hike that affected 500 employees, according to past reporting.

Mueller Co.'s over-the-counter stock closed July 15 at $45.99, compared with a 52-week range of $36.37 to $52 per share.

Why run a press release on a company giving employees a wage increase if the company is not going to tell you what the wage increase was? Or a range? If the company doesn’t want it known, why did it send you a press release?
