The owner of Pasta Express and a business partner sold the Italian restaurant at 321 E. Battlefield Road to its general manager.
Ed Quasius, who joined Pasta Express seven months ago, bought the restaurant for undisclosed terms on Dec. 1 from Matt Krupa and C.J. Miles. The Springfield-based Pasta Express franchise is owned by Krupa, who also owns the restaurant at 3025 W. Republic Road. Krupa and Miles together own the Pasta Express franchise at 3250 E. Battlefield Road.
“Ed has always had the desire to own and operate his own business,” Krupa said. “The opportunity presented itself and we asked him if he’d be interested in being an owner of Pasta Express.”
Krupa, Miles and B.J. Lowrance opened the 321 E. Battlefield Road restaurant in 2012 at a former Blockbuster store. Krupa said he purchased Lowrance’s stake three years ago in the two Pasta Express restaurants on Battlefield.
Pasta Express franchisees pay a $20,000 franchise fee and 6 percent royalties, Krupa said, though concessions were made for the deal with Quasius.
Krupa started out as a franchisee of Pasta Express in 1995 before buying the company in 2004 from Bob Ikemeier and Jay Parrino.
Utah-based gourmet cookie chain Crumbl Cookies opened its first Springfield shop; interior design business Branson Upstaging LLC relocated; and Lauren Ashley Dance Center LLC added a second location.
