Party and event venue set to launch on C-Street

A Springfield-based children’s entertainment company is set to open a birthday party and event venue on Commercial Street before month’s end.

Kayla Buecker, owner of Princesses of the 417 LLC, which sends costumed characters out for private and public events, said her new venture, Celebrations on C-Street LLC, will have a July 27 soft opening. It occupies 2,000 square feet at 215 W. Commercial St. and can be rented out for birthday parties and special events. She said the space also will double as headquarters for her entertainment company.

“We didn’t want to limit it to kids’ birthday parties,” Buecker said, noting an Aug. 11 grand opening is planned that will include a ribbon-cutting ceremony. “It’s just a really great space. It’s like a canvas where anybody can bring any kind of occasion to life.”

Buecker declined to disclose startup costs or her one-year lease rate with landlord Ted Tabor. Her new venture fills space previously occupied by party supply shop Serendipity, which recently moved to 225 E. Commercial St. She said one of Serendipity’s owners, Sydnie Myers, notified her earlier this year of the planned move for her business.

“Sydnie’s a friend of mine and we worked together on many events. She told me that she was leaving for a bigger space and that I should look into it, so I did,” she said.

Princesses, fairy-tale characters and superheroes make up most of the over 60 costumed options for the entertainment company, Buecker said, adding she plans to invest soon in more costumes and characters.

“We don’t know exactly how many yet. It’ll kind of be dependent upon what’s most in demand for these parties, but we do spend about $1,200 per character that we offer and then we will also be making investments in more party themes,” she said, adding Elsa from “Frozen” and Spider-Man are the company’s most in-demand characters.

Princesses of the 417, which Buecker started over five years ago, appears at an average of 400 parties a year, including public events. She said the coverage area extends to as far as two hours away, but most parties are in the Springfield and Branson areas. Most private parties at homes don’t exceed 20 children, but she estimated the new venue’s capacity will easily exceed 50 people.

Opening an event venue is the culmination of Buecker’s 10-year dream that began when she started performing in costume at children’s birthday parties.

“Ever since then, it’s just been the journey of finding the right space,” she said. “It feels very surreal, but also very right. I feel very at peace about it and also very confident that this is going to make a really big, positive impact on the families in our community.”
