Springfield-Greene County Park Board

Parks, Placemaking and Partnerships

Posted online

Cities like Springfield are always looking to draw and retain a talented workforce. Placemaking, the intentional utilization and development of a city’s assets in order to make the city more appealing and useful, can be a major factor in that effort.

“Placemaking plays a huge role in economic impact,” says Diana Tyndall, marketing and sponsorship coordinator with Springfield-Greene County Park Board. “The role that parks play is a big one.” Tyndall says parks contribute to quality of life and memory making. People who live near parks or Greenway trails also have the added bonus of the possibility of a 10 to 15 percent increase in property value.

Partner with the Parks

“More and more people know that Springfield has a wonderful parks system. But what they might not know is that their business can partner with the parks and tie into not only our Springfield customers, but also people who might be looking to relocate to the region who can eventually become their customers too,” says Tyndall.

Local businesses have the opportunity to capitalize on the reputation the Park Board has built over the years. “We have many opportunities to partner with the parks,” says Tyndall.

“Businesses can incorporate the parks in their employee wellness programs. This can be a huge draw for prospective hires.” There are also sponsorship opportunities available. “We have huge events that we put on,” says Tyndall. One of those is the Turkey Trot which brings almost 9,000 participants every year. There is a wide range of marketing opportunities from outfield signage to facility naming rights.

The Springfield-Greene County Park Board is comprised of 104 sites and hosts more than 50 regional and local sports tournaments each year, the top 13-15 events of which generate $15 million in visitor spending to the area. “The Springfield- Greene County Park Board is an award-winning, nationally accredited parks system,” says Tyndall. “People love us and that’s a great place to be and a great place to co-brand, which is great for businesses and Springfield. We’re proud to play a part in the placemaking efforts in Springfield.”
