A 2020 sales goal exceeded by O’Reilly Automotive Inc. (Nasdaq: ORLY) meant a better placement for the company on this year's Fortune 500.
The auto parts retailer ranked No. 268, climbing 46 spots from last year. It's a new best for O'Reilly Automotive on the Fortune 500, which ranks companies based on annual revenues.
O'Reilly Automotive in 2020 reported $11.6 billion in sales, shooting past an $11 billion goal identified by company officials. The retailer beat a separate revenue target in 2019, when sales exceeded $10 billion for the first time in company history.
The Springfield company is the fourth-best ranked business in Missouri, after No. 24 Centene Corp., No. 181 Emerson Electric Co. and No. 207 Reinsurance Group of America Inc. O'Reilly Automotive is the only company on the Fortune 500 in the Springfield area.
Another southwest Missouri company, Carthage-based manufacturer Leggett & Platt Inc. (NYSE: LEG), was ranked by Fortune but did not make the top 500. Leggett & Platt ranked No. 598 – a drop down the list from No. 569 last year – with revenue of $4.3 billion.
The Fortune 500 was topped again this year by Walmart Inc., with revenue of $559.2 billion. No. 2 is Amazon.com Inc., with $386.1 billion in revenue, followed by No. 3 Apple Inc., at $274.5 billion.
The Republic School District is on track to open its Intermediate School for fifth- and sixth-grade students for the 2025-26 academic year.
