Two Springfield-based businesses ranked on Fortune's annual list of the country's most innovative companies.

O’Reilly Automotive Inc. (Nasdaq: ORLY) and Bass Pro Shops placed Nos. 229 and 277, respectively, out of 300 companies on the list.

The Fortune list, in partnership with Statista, ranks companies in three categories: Product Innovation, an evaluation of products and services; Process Innovation, a review of sourcing, production, marketing, sales and support through a survey of employees and experts; and Innovation Culture, measuring how companies foster entrepreneurship and allow teams to implement new ideas.

O'Reilly Automotive scored highest in culture, No. 87, followed by No. 209 in process and No. 255 in product innovations. Bass Pro performed best in product innovation, at No. 146, then No. 257 in culture and No. 298 in process, according to the list.

No other southwest Missouri companies are on the list. However, St. Louis-based Mercy, which operates in the Springfield area, ranked No. 189.

The Top 5 are: Alphabet (Nasdaq: GOOG), Salesforce (NYSE: CRM), Microsoft (Nasdaq: MSFT), Oracle (NYSE: ORCL) and IBM (NYSE: IBM).
