Posted online

Willard Physical Therapy Center
Following a home-based start in September 2021, Willard Physical Therapy Center LLC opened a brick-and-mortar clinic Jan. 1 at 304 E. Jackson St., Ste. F, in the East Shopping Center. Owner Kala Sheppard said startup costs were $30,000 for the 2,500-square-foot Willard clinic, but she declined to disclose the three-year lease rate with Morris Loan and Investment Co. Sheppard, whose credentials include certification as an athletic trainer and doctor of physical therapy, said her five-employee clinic serves a variety of patients. That includes treatment of toddlers for pelvic floor therapy and gross motor delay, athletes for sports injuries and adults before and after orthopedic surgery. Sheppard’s past employment as a physical therapist includes Bolivar Physical Therapy Center LLC and Dynamic Strides Therapy Inc. She initially established Willard Physical Therapy Center as a concierge service, offering outpatient physical therapy in patients’ homes before deciding to open her own clinic.

CRIT Workshop
With roughly a decade of experience as a licensed architect, Elizabeth Schultz launched consulting company CRIT Workshop LLC on Feb. 28. Schultz, a Springfield native, left nonprofit Community Development Corp. of Kansas City, to start her home-based business. She is the lone employee of CRIT Workshop, which stands for creative, responsive and innovative thinking. Schultz said startup costs were $5,000 for the design company, which offers services including facilitation, predevelopment, feasibility studies and master planning for developers, nonprofits, schools and municipalities. Schultz said she wanted to fill what she saw as a significant need for facilitation and community engagement consultants with hybrid expertise, noting her past work as a design strategist, architect and planner. In 2012, she earned master’s degrees in architecture and community planning in urban design from the University of Cincinnati’s College of Design, Architecture, Art and Planning.
