Open for Business: The Uptown Boutique

Posted online

The Uptown Boutique
July 22 was the first day in business for The Uptown Boutique, following a relocation from one Springfield shopping center to another. Sarah Schaeffer Baumgart is owner of the women’s clothing retailer, which moved to 2652 S. Glenstone Ave. in Brentwood Center North. The company previously operated in the Fremont Center at 1326 E. Battlefield Road. With the relocation, The Uptown Boutique reduced its square footage to 2,500 from 3,200 – a strategic decision, Baumgart said, adding she had been looking for a smaller space for a handful of years. The Uptown Boutique’s relocation expenses were roughly $50,000, said Baumgart, who declined to disclose terms of the company’s three-year lease with Brentwood Center North owner Jared Commercial Real Estate LLC. The six-employee store, which offers items such as contemporary clothing, casual tops, shoes, handbags and jewelry, additionally will benefit from increased traffic at the Brentwood Center, she said.

Dripz and Dreamz Mo-Lo
Aug. 2 marked a soft opening for mobile coffee and tea business Dripz and Dreamz Mo-Lo, which is set up at 50 York Drive in front of Marshfield’s Prairie Plaza shopping center and registered with the state as D N D MOLO LLC. Owner Shellie Davis said the venture is her first foray into the food service industry, adding she and her husband, Jeremiah, previously owned construction company Davis Home Renovation and Repair LLC for about 16 years before she made the professional pivot this year. Startup costs were roughly $15,000, Davis said, adding she has an open-ended lease for an undisclosed rate with Wayne York Enterprises. She bought the trailer from her brother-in-law, Justin Davis, who owns the brick-and-mortar shop of Dripz and Dreamz in Cleveland, Oklahoma, and said Mo-Lo is short for “Missouri location.” The menu for Dripz and Dreamz includes coffee options such as breves, lattes and frappes, along with raspberry, matcha and chai teas. It also offers Lotus energy drinks and lemonade.

Crumbl Cookies
Springfield’s second Crumbl Cookies opened May 24 at 1979 E. Independence St. in the James River Towne Center. Darren Haddock said he is among franchisees of the new store via KSA Cookies, which includes Steve and Amy Wallace, Neil Hansen and several silent investors. Haddock declined to disclose startup costs or lease terms for the venture, although the website for the Utah-based gourmet cookie chain notes a minimum liquidity of $150,000 is required. He said the 3,000-square-foot location employs around 40 people and is the largest of the 12 stores KSA Cookies operates in Kansas and Missouri, adding seven of those are in the Kansas City area. The chain has roughly 250 flavors, including classic pink sugar and chocolate cake batter, among its rotating menu of cookies and has more than 1,040 stores in all 50 states. Founded in 2017, Crumbl Cookies made its Queen City debut in March at 2415 N. Glenstone Ave. through Curtis Industries LLC, a separate franchisee.
