Summit Athletix
A construction industry veteran branched out to a new kind of venture with the May 14 opening of Summit Athletix. Located at 3050 N. 20th St. in Ozark, the gymnasium provides competitive tumbling and cheerleading for ages 4-19, as well as co-ed stunting lessons, both private and semiprivate, to prepare athletes for collegiate cheerleading. Recreational options include tumbling classes and themed children’s summer camps. Owner Lacy Emmert said a preschool recreational gymnastics and tumbling program is coming in the fall, adding the 12,000-square-foot building she owns also is available to rent for birthday parties. Emmert, who also has co-owned Snyder Construction Group LLC with her husband, Dusty, since 2002, said she’s taught gymnastics and cheerleading for 30 years. While declining to fully disclose startup costs for the venture, she said investment in the equipment, which includes two full spring floors for tumbling and cheer instruction, as well as a large in-ground pit that houses an air bag, was around $200,000.

Flora Farms
The newest marijuana dispensary for Flora Farms LLC opened June 28 in Hollister. The 165 Hollister Parkway store is the seventh dispensary for Flora Farms, which also owns a manufacturing operation in Springfield in addition to its Humansville cultivation facility. The company’s sixth dispensary was the result of an acquisition in 2023 for undisclosed terms of Old Route 66 Wellness LLC, which operates a Springfield store at 2823 N. Glenstone Ave. Hendren said Flora Farms took over operation of the facility March 1. Hendren declined to disclose startup costs for the 4,518-square-foot Hollister store, which was built by Crossland Construction Co. Inc. and designed by Joplin-based Hunter & Millard Architects Inc. The 40-employee staff in Hollister is led by General Manager Chelsea Hawkins, Hendren said, adding Mary Kate Black is director of retail for all seven Flora Farms dispensaries. Its other stores are in Humansville, Lee’s Summit, Ozark and Pineville.

Liora’s Original Creations Nail Salon
After Liora Simonian moved to Springfield in 2021 from Buffalo, New York, she realized it was time to dive into her passion for making original nail art. Working in the Queen City as a mobile nail technician for the past three years, she launched on July 2 her first brick-and-mortar business, Liora’s Original Creations Nail Salon, located at 3322 S. Campbell Ave., Ste. CC4, in McLoud Plaza. Simonian said she wants to continue her mobile operation but combine it with the stability of a physical location. Startup costs for the salon were roughly $5,000, Simonian said, adding she signed a six-month lease with McLoud & Co. LLC for $360 a month but plans to stay in the area for at least a year. Simonian plans to keep herself as the sole employee for now. Prices range from $15 for elderly customers and those with disabilities to $70 for a French tip set. She said the salon also has specific pricing for original nail art.
