Offworld Tattoo
Alex Peck became a first-time business owner with the May 6 opening of Offworld Tattoo LLC. The downtown tattoo shop fills 1,500 square feet at 400 South Ave., Ste. 110. Peck, who works in the shop under the artist name Xander Snow, said startup costs were $5,000, and he signed a three-year lease for $2,000 per month with JLM Realty LLC. Peck wanted to open his own shop to provide a safe, clean and striking facility to make art, and encourage other artists to embrace a variety of tattoo styles and methods. He said he’s spent the past several years working in his wife Amanda Layman’s business, Tigris Content Marketing, as well as freelance writing. At Offworld, Peck, who is the shop’s lone employee, said he offers black and full color tattoos, specializing in styles including minimal, abstract and neo-tribal. Tattoos start at $60, he said.

Bowl’d Behavior
After taking over ownership last year of a healthy shakes and energy teas shop in Springfield, husband and wife Brandon and Brittny Stockstill opened Bowl’d Behavior, a new venture in Bolivar, on July 2. The menu at 919 E. Broadway St., Ste. B, includes acai bowls and dragon fruit bowls, energy teas, fruit and protein smoothies, and pressed juice. Prices range $4-$14. Brandon Stockstill said the concept is similar to the couple’s Downtown Health Bar, which they’ve owned since January 2021 at 323 E. Walnut St. Startup costs in Bolivar were $30,000, he said, adding they signed a one-year lease for $960 per month with DCBC LLC. Stockstill said they employ 12 between Downtown Health Bar and Bowl’d Behavior, as several work in both locations. The couple also planned to open in Metro Eats on West Sunshine Street, but Stockstill said they decided to focus energy on the two existing shops. Due to the discovery of an open trademark on the Bowl’d Behavior name, he said the new shop will change to Bowl Behavior by late September.

CMH Dermatology Clinic
A remodel of a former employee pharmacy building on the Bolivar campus of Citizens Memorial Hospital resulted in the Aug. 1 launch of CMH Dermatology Clinic. The Bolivar-based health system opened the 4,466-square-foot clinic at 1125 N. Butterfield Road. CMH spokesperson Tamera Heitz-Peek said Nicki Cupp is manager of the eight-employee clinic, which includes Dr. Murphy Mastin. Mastin’s areas of practice include skin cancer and precancerous growth; acne, warts and psoriasis; cryosurgery; lesion removal; and skin infections. Heitz-Peek said remodeling costs were $613,000 and Waynesville-based Bales Construction Co. Inc. served as the project’s general contractor. CMH’s prior dermatology clinic closed in 2016, she said, noting the health system had been without a full-time dermatologist since then. She said the Butterfield Road building most recently was used as a staging site for a drive-thru COVID-19 testing program. CMH operates 34 primary and specialty clinics in its eight-county service area.
