Mountain Movement
One bike shop replaced another in the Rountree neighborhood as Mountain Movement LLC expanded to a second store Aug. 1. Mountain Movement owner Max Penny purchased Queen City Cycles and its inventory at 615 S. Pickwick Ave. Penny, who opened his first shop in 2020 at 5360 S. Campbell Ave., Ste. D, said a second was a long-term goal, but that timeline moved up when Queen City Cycles owner Miles Hamilton reached out with interest in selling his 18-year-old business. Penny declined to disclose the purchase price for the business or startup costs or lease terms for the 3,000-square-foot shop. Along with parts, accessories and apparel for different ride disciplines, he said Mountain Movement’s Pickwick shop carries a large selection of bikes, including the Kona, Transition, Pivot and Forbidden brands. Both shops also service any brand of bike, he said. Penny also runs Howler Bike Park, a 200-acre attraction in Walnut Shade he co-owns with his parents, John and Jennifer Penny.

7 Brew Coffee
Drive-thru coffee chain 7 Brew Coffee expanded its Ozarks footprint with the July 25 opening of a shop in Branson at 2208 76 Country Blvd. Franchisees are business partners Jason Pullman and BreAnn Proctor, who operate the business via P2 Brew LLC. The roughly 500-square-foot coffee stand is the first in the Taney County town for Fayetteville, Arkansas-based 7 Brew. The shop features dual drive-thru lanes with a focus on iced and hot coffee, shakes, smoothies, energy drinks, teas and Italian sodas. Prices range $2-$7. Jeff and Milla Heubel are co-managers of the shop, which employs 40, Proctor said, declining to disclose startup costs. Since late 2021, a separate franchisee group, Brew Crew LLC, has opened three 7 Brew shops in Springfield and one in Lebanon. According to its website, the coffee company has expanded to 24 shops in five states since its 2017 founding.

Mama G’s Kitchen
After starting a home-based company in the food service industry two years ago, Gloria Hereford launched her first restaurant, Mama G’s Kitchen, on July 8 at Metro Eats, 2463 W. Sunshine St. Hereford said she signed a one-year lease for an undisclosed rate with Metro Eats owners Christina and Amy Shellhart. Hereford declined to disclose startup costs for Mama G’s, which fills a 130-square-foot space in the food depot. Hereford said she is the lone employee at Mama G’s, although she receives help from several family members. The menu includes comfort and soul food, including catfish, meatloaf, fried chicken, pot roast, collard greens, and mac and cheese. Entree prices range $10-$16. In 2020, Hereford started Mama G’s Lovely Creations LLC, which sells sweets, including chocolate covered fruit and pretzels, as well as edible fruit baskets. She began selling at the Metro Eats farmers market last year.
